Director’s welcome

Welcome to HMP Addiewell.
Opened in 2008, HMP Addiewell is now the only privately run prison in Scotland.
Our aim is to support those in our care by providing a safe, decent and secure prison. We deliver a wide range of interventions to support prisoners during their time with us, including purposeful activity, employment and education. We provide support those who have struggled with substance misuse, helping individuals to make more positive choices in their rehabilitative journey and encouraging them to change and grow.
Every person living or working at HMP Addiewell is a crucial part of a team and their role within that team has the power to change lives. Sodexo staff, in every department within the prison, are proud to help prisoners during this period in their lives.
Prisoners also play a pivotal role within our community, both helping other prisoners and supporting staff to carry out their roles. We understand that coming into prison can be daunting. Our Insiders provide peer support and guidance to other prisoners, but especially to new prisoners, helping them settle into the routines of the prison. I personally take safety very seriously and expect everyone else to do the same. Whether you are a family member of a prisoner or a prospective employee you can be assured that safety for all is our top priority.
We work in partnership with local companies, voluntary organisations and partners from various areas, to assist men in improving their outcomes and contributing positively to their local community. Our partners share our vision and help us to change lives for the better.
I am proud to lead a team of professionals who are passionate about rehabilitation and reducing reoffending within a progressive prison here at HMP Addiewell.
