Environmental Protection

We are committed to 4 key areas of concern: sustainable supplies, energy and emissions, water and effluents, materials and wastes.

Water and effluents

We will reduce our water footprint in all the countries where we operate and at all clients’ sites by 2020.

CHINA – By sealing the water leakage, utilizing the reclaimed water to wash cars and installing micro-spraying systems for irrigation, Sodexo helped one of our clients, a world-famous automobile manufacture, to reduce water consumption by 2,703 tons in 2013, a 19% reduction compared to 2012.

UNITED STATES – The water conservation project involves installing new toilets, aerators and showerheads, resulting in savings of 2.6 million gallons of water and $47,000 annually. The project also includes melting down sharps for conversion into hockey pucks that can be disposed of in the regular trash, saving 90% on hazardous waste removal.

FRANCE – In 2008, Sodexo rolled out a new program called “So.Eco”, involving the implementation of three environmental practices at all 3,000 of its sites: processing waste, reducing effluents and other discharges, and saving water and energy. The program includes the distribution of best practice guides and training teams.
