Key figures

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, Stop Hunger steps up its actions towards a hunger-free world

World hunger continues to rise, affecting more than 800 million people and 161 million more than in 2019. Why? The pandemic and its economic consequences have worsened the situation, due primarily to conflicts and the climate crisis.

Stop Hunger is a global non-profit network acting to end hunger sustainably. This year more than ever, our local actions are vital in supporting those most in need.

As 2021 draws to close, we celebrate our key impacts and say a huge thank you to our 41,000 volunteers, donors, 400 NGO partners and our founding partner, Sodexo. It’s thanks to collective action that Stop Hunger has a positive impact, day by day.

Let’s take a look at our key impact in figures.

The Covid-19 crisis has deepened food insecurity. Stop Hunger has taken vital action to support those most in need. Since the beginning of the pandemic and this unprecedented food crisis, Stop Hunger has distributed 8.5 million meals along with its volunteers, donors and founding partner Sodexo.

A total of 52 million people have benefited from our support over the past six years, more than a quarter of which during the Covid-19 crisis.

A huge thank you to the 41,000 volunteers that have got involved in actions, from food distribution and fundraising to skills-based missions in support of our NGO partners. Thousands of our volunteers come from our founding partner, Sodexo. Thank you to all of them for their commitment and energy.

Thanks to our volunteers, donors and our founding partner Sodexo, we have raised a total of US$ 8 million to spend on local actions for a hunger-free world in the past year.

Now more than ever, it’s clear that providing people with food will not end hunger.
It is proven that women, if given the opportunity to manage household income, tend to spend more of it on food, health and education. By empowering women, we can sustainably eradicate hunger in our communities. Stop Hunger supports 54 women empowerment programs in 31 countries. Our support includes skills-based sponsorship as well as US$6.5 million of investment, mainly in training and mentoring.

A total of 30,000 women have been supported by Stop Hunger’s actions over the past five years.
