Working Toward a Circular Economy
We’re reducing waste in our business and working together with our suppliers and clients to reduce theirs. Sodexo is focused on preventing all forms of waste through changes in our processes, consumer education and collaboration with external partners. We aim to follow the principles of the circular economy to ensure all waste has a beneficial use and by promoting reuse, recycling and composting to eliminate avoidable waste going to landfills.
WasteWatch Powered by Leanpath
For Sodexo, the fight against food waste is part of our daily routine. By using the WasteWatch powered by Leanpath program, Sodexo teams are able to easily capture food waste data and take action to drive cultural and behavioral change, whether food waste is generated in the kitchen or by consumers throwing away food.
Influencing Behavior Change
We are training our teams to be sustainably minded and have created training and personal development programs to empower employees, customers and clients to wasteLESS by celebrating the benefits of conserving food, water, energy and raw materials.
For example, customer engagement activities, such as Weigh the Waste events, raise awareness about how much food is wasted during a meal. Our operations managers are trained on change management principles to engage and inspire our teams to implement the innovations and interventions needed to reduce food waste on-site.
Food Donation
For the past 20 years, Sodexo has supported the fight against hunger and malnutrition through our Stop Hunger Foundation. If Sodexo teams are unable to eliminate food waste at our on-site restaurants, we can offer the surplus food to local agencies for redistribution to those in need.
Packaging and Recycling
Single-use packaging, including containers, boxes, cups, bowls, utensils, wraps, bags, lids, straws and stirrers, are damaging oceans, seafood, wildlife and the broader environment. Cutting down on single-use packaging is at the core of our fight against waste. We’ve introduced innovative packaging and recycling solutions, such as reusable materials, bioplastics and organic material, to help prevent plastic waste from ending up in landfills.
