#WeAreInThisTogether
We are so proud of the Sodexo teams who have shown resilience, optimism, and innovation while continuing to serve their communities during this time. Here are some of their stories. Scroll down to see how you can help communities in need.
Harvesting Fresh Food for Local Schoolchildren
Orlando, FL - While the Orange County Convention Center is closed, Centerplate sustainability director Molly Crouch and her team are making sure that its onsite hydroponic gardens are being put to good use. They're donating harvested produce to local community partnerships, ensuring Orange County Public School students and their families have access to nutritious meals during the global pandemic.
Skilled Workers Fabricate Much-Needed Medical Equipment Parts
Youngstown, OH - The Sodexo|Roth sheet metal fabrication shop has turned its efforts toward producing parts for PPE used by medical professionals. The shop has so far produced and donated 30,000 metal strips used in N-95 masks. “These masks are in high demand, and production time has been stalled due to missing components such as these,” says John Schuler, director of marketing and communications.
Healing with Healthful Food
Perth Amboy, NJ - With hospital team members working long, stressful hours, Executive Chef Justin Massie at Raritan Bay Medical Center created a raw juice bar to provide supportive health to the team. Massie states “I had a feeling this would go over well, but I also felt it was necessary to promote a "healing with food" kind of mentality during this time.”
Determination to Mission Accomplished
Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC - When mess halls transitioned to reduced self-service & the ACF box meal distribution center received a staggering 13k requests, the team didn't miss a beat. We're proud to share this comment from the Marine Corps: “I'm extremely impressed by these efforts. Sodexo's perseverance to stand alongside the US Marine Corps during this pandemic is second to none."
Healthy Meal Continuity for Students
Washington, DC - Feeding needy students is one of our highest priorities at this time. At 25 sites around Washington, DC, Sodexo team members are delivering up to 10,000 healthy meals per day, Mon-Fri from 10am-2pm. While meals are designed for DC Public School students, we turn no one away from receiving a helpful meal during these hard times. We are here to serve our community.
Achieving the Unthinkable: Opening a COVID Surge Center in Just 10 Days
East Longmeadow, MA - Just days after residents at Pioneer Valley Recovery Center were moved to a brand-new building, the state reached out requesting that the old building be transformed into a COVID Surge Center. Immediately, Sodexo team members from across the organization sprung into action, collaborating to make it happen. After just 10 days, the center was ready to admit its first resident.
Heroes Supporting Heroes at a Moment's Notice
Danbury, CT - With hospitals near capacity in Fairfield County, the O'Neill Center on Western Connecticut State University's Westside Campus has been transformed into a field hospital with 250 beds. With 24 hours’ notice, the WCSU Dining Services team fed 100 National Guard members who are assisting in the setup, and began serving patients and medical staff once the facility opened.
